Why The Producers And Directors Made Lelaa Mishra An Aunt, In Cinema All Her Life..?
Leela Mishra had put this condition before working in films, she never did romantic scenes Whatever character Leela played in the film, she brought it to life. Her quick dialogues, her style of speaking and her facial expressions while speaking won people's hearts. Leela acted in one hit film after another. When Leela reached the film set for the first time, she had a pallu on her head, she reached the set in a completely village style. Later, the pallu on the head became her signature style. She did work in films, but she did not even recognize most of the stars.
Leela's personal life
Leela was born on 1 January 1908 in a landlord family of Agra. Leela did not have any education, so her parents soon got her married at the age of just 12. Her husband's name was Ramprasad Mishra and at the age of 18, she had also become the mother of two children. Leela may have belonged to a conservative family, but her husband Ramprasad was a free-thinking person. He used to visit Mumbai often. He loved cinema a lot, so whenever he got a chance, he used to do silent roles in many films. Belonging to an orthodox family, Leela has been very religious from the beginning. Once when Ramprasad's friend Mama Sindhe went to their house, he saw Leela for the first time and said that she should work in films, but Leela refused to accept his words. In such a situation, when her husband convinced her to work in films, she agreed to work in films.
Both (Leela and her husband Ramprasad) worked together in a film 'Sati Silochana' released in 1936. Ramprasad used to get 150 rupees per month for this film, while Leela used to get a full 500 rupees per month for this film. Leela used to get double the money than Ramprasad because in those days there were less female actors in films. She worked in many excellent films like 'Chitralekha', 'Rambaan', 'Sheeshmahal', 'Awara', 'Daag', 'Pyaasa', 'Lavanti', 'Leader', 'Bahu Begum' and 'Amar Prem'.Leela had only two conditions to work in films, firstly that she would not do romantic roles in any film and secondly that she would never remove the pallu from her head. Leela was surprised to see that doing intimate scenes with the hero in films was called the demand of the film. Leela flatly refused to do romantic scenes in films. She refused to work as the lead role in many romantic films.
Style
People liked her unique style and way of speaking dialogues. She was highly praised for her acting in the film Jai Maa Santoshi. She also received the Best Actress award for this film. Apart from the Hindi film industry, Leela also acted in Bhojpuri films. She died due to a heart attack at the age of 80. She will always remain alive in the hearts of people with her excellent acting.
